Dental Hygiene and Cleanings

Did you know there are over 500 types of bacteria in the human mouth? Bacteria grows exponentially as well, and research shows that after a dental hygiene visit (cleaning) it takes approximately 8 weeks for the harmful bacteria to re-populate. What happens is the bacterial plaque takes the minerals from our saliva and begins to harden, essentially petrified stone bacteria which we call calculus or dental tartar.

Once the calculus (tartar) forms, it cannot be removed with a toothbrush or floss. Only with dental instruments can remove the dental bacterial. This bacteria causes gum and bone disease, as well as cavities, however, regular dental cleanings by a registered dental hygienist can prevent and maintain a healthy mouth. Our hygienist all pride themselves in being thorough and gentle. Call or email today to schedule your dental cleaning.
