Teeth Whitening in Calgary - Dental clinic in Calgary, Alberta

If you are looking for ways to alter the discolouration of your teeth, your cosmetic dentists in Calgary at Westhills Dental Centre will be more than happy to help you out with this goal.

There are a variety of reasons that your teeth may become stained or yellow:

  • You may be eating or drinking staining foods or drinks, such as coffee, tea, sodas, curry, soy sauce, beets.
  • You may be using a lot of tobacco
  • Certain medications
  • Pulp damage
  • Age

Westhills Dental Centre offers two types of teeth whitening in Calgary: in-office or at home. Our in-office teeth whitening offers one of the most renowned teeth whitening systems in the world, Zoom, to help alter the discolouration of your teeth. Zoom involves firstly checking if your gums are healthy enough for the whitening solution. If so, our Calgary dentists will apply a protective material around your teeth to keep your gums, tongue, and lips protected from the whitening solution.Your teeth are then prepared with a conditioner which is then rinsed and dried. Next, Zoom!® whitening gel, which contains specifically formulated, pH balanced hydrogen peroxide is placed on your teeth and left on for approximately 15 minutes. During this time, the bleaching gel removes the surface stains from your teeth with the help of a special light and heat that our dentist places on your teeth to activate the bleaching chemicals. This process is repeated several times until your desired shade is achieved. Lastly, our dentists will make you undergo a five-minute fluoride treatment.

For those who prefer to whiten their teeth at home, we can create custom-fitted mouth trays for you to wear. The bleaching gel is placed in the trays which have to be worn for a short period of time every day during your treatment period. Depending on the severity of your stains, you may have to wear them for several days to weeks. However, most people should start seeing results after a few days.

However, as teeth whitening is effective in making your teeth whiter, please do keep in mind that you may experience side effects such as being sensitive to hot and cold foods during your whitening treatment. This sensitivity should subside within a few days. In order to maintain the sensitivity to a minimum, you should use toothpastes designed for sensitive teeth prior to your treatment to help reduce tooth sensitivity.
